LIVING IN THE NOW

We often get caught up in our fully, foggy heads. What is the best thing to do? What are all the options? Who am I? What do I want? What makes me happy? What is good for me? What am I doing it all for?

First of all, HO-HO-HO.
Let me start by making you aware of the bigger picture.
Please realize that first of all… We all don’t know what we are doing. No one does. Everyone is just doing whatever. And for what exactly? We live and then we all die.
Maybe that sounds very harsh, or you don’t want to think about it. But it is true. And it could actually be a relieving thought: it’s not all that heavy and serious, everything is temporary, everything will pass anyway, so it all doesn’t matter that much. That is also an opportunity to start living life to the fullest! Instead of getting stuck in worries and questions and doubts.
We live on a planet, in an endless universe. We are such a small grain in an immense, infinite something. Something we can’t grasp and explain completely. Something we can only get a glimpse of, if we calm our minds a bit.

Our minds are constantly thinking about sooner or later. Our heads find it difficult to be in the now. Maybe you don’t even realize this yet, because you live so much in your head. You don’t know any better. Or maybe you already know this, but then it’s always a good extra reminder. We always think that if we think, analyze, organize, plan and control as much as possible, the answers will come. But the real right answers only come, when it is a bit quieter. And not necessarily quieter around us (although this can definitely help), but especially quieter in our heads. If that endless stream of thoughts can stop every now and then. This is sometimes difficult to understand. But there is also nothing to understand about it. That’s exactly the mindf*ck ;).

I like to compare it with a plant. A plant that simply grows, without making any extra effort. We’re just growing too. We’re getting older naturally, our organs work by themselves and all the other weird things that I don’t even know that exists in our bodies. Everything that literally makes us live. We have never had to do anything to ensure that we live, we even breath automatically. It just happens! Things in generally just happen by itself.
We don’t have to think about all that. And yet our thinking thinks it is superior and has to take over all the time. This is not to say that thinking is a bad thing. Our mind is an amazing tool if we use it in alignment with our true nature. It t is important that thinking becomes a support to your growth rather than a hindrance. It is precisely by being so much in our heads that we hold back natural growth. When “life” and your thinking can work well together, it can actually promote growth!

As far as I’m concerned, the first step is to come back to the now. Even if your head is full of 10.000 problems, ideas, fears, feedback points on what you should and shouldn’t have said, etc… Still let’s come back to the now.

A good question to ask yourself is: “Do I have a problem NOW?” And then you can say: “Yes, because I still have to pay my bills and I said something stupid to my boyfriend and I have to correct that and and…” No. Do you have a problem NOW? NOW, as you look at this screen, as you are in the room where you are. Is there a problem NOW? Is there a problem AT ALL? The answer is No. Your mind always tends to make a problem of something in the past or in the future. In the now there is never a problem. There might be a challenge that happens in the now that has to be solved, yes. By staying with that whatever happens in the now, by staying fully present, you will act in a way that is best for this moment, right now.

If you would like to read more about living in the now: The Power of Now, written by Eckhart Tolle is a beautiful book about presence and our ego.
